Fort Gorges Public Forum

Join City of Portland's Parks Commission and the Portland Parks Conservancy for a public forum on Fort Gorges will be held September 4, 2019 5:30 PM at East End Community Center.

The Portland Parks Conservancy Board of Trustees selected Fort Gorges as one of their primary areas of interest in 2019.  This 160-year old landmark in Casco Bay is in urgent need of preservation work to keep it safe and accessible. The threat is real—the Fort may be closed completely if action is not taken.

The Conservancy is partnering with the City’s Parks Commission to host a forum this fall to inform the public of the state of the Fort and to gain feedback about potential solutions, including the possibility of commercial development, to maintain this unique public park.

Speakers will include Paul Drinan, Friends of Fort Gorges, and Ethan Hipple, Deputy Director of the Portland Department of Parks, Recreation, and Facilities and Greg Mitchell, Director of Economic Development for the City. Community Organizer Markos Miller will facilitate.
