City's Five Splash Pads & Kiwanis Pool Now Open for Summer Season

new Deering Oaks

Looking for a place to cool off with the kids this summer? Make a splash at the Deering Oaks Ravine or the Kiwanis Pool, both of which are now open. The Ravine features underground fountains and a wading pool and is a popular spot for families looking for some relief from the heat. Picnic tables and the William A. Goodwin Playspace are just a short walk away making a trip to Deering Oaks a fun escape for the day.

The Kiwanis Pool, located on Douglas Street in Portland, is open to the community for 10 weeks during the summer. The pool’s open swim hours are seven days a week, 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM, and Monday-Friday 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM. Adult lap swim times include Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 6:00 AM – 8:00 AM and 12:00PM – 1:30 PM, and seven days a week, 4:30 – 6:00 PM.

Pool access fees are $4.50 for adults and $1 for children. Swim lessons offered by Portland’s Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department are available for ages three and older. People can register for classes online here, at the pool or at the Riverton Pool office.  For more detailed information about the city’s Aquatic Program and the Riverton & Reiche pool schedule, click here or call 207-874-8456.

The City also operates four other splash pads throughout the city, which are open for the season. They can be found at the Kiwanis Pool, Stone Street playground, Peppermint Park playground, and Payson Park. For more info on where to find these, visit: http://www.portlandmaine.gov/playgrounds.
